Aston Villa vs Bolton: Match Preview

On Saturday we travel to the Midlands for their our next Championship fixture, against Aston Villa.

It has so far been a disastrous start to the season for the Whites, having picked up a measly 2 points, conceding goals for fun and not having scored in the league since August – every game at the moment now becomes a must win to keep us in the mix for survival.

Aston Villa have recently picked up valuable points taking them into the top half of the table and are so far unbeaten at Villa Park.

If by some miracle we are to get anything from this game, we will have to contain the likes of current top scorer Conor Hourihane, ex Arsenal and Notts Forrest playmaker Henri Lansbury. Our strikers will also have to be on top form to get anything from ex Chelsea captain John Terry.

Over the years many players have worn the white of Bolton and the claret and blue of Villa including the likes of Wanderers hero Gary Cahill, Alan Hutton, Zat Knight, Jlloyd Samuel, Barry Bannan, Stephen Warnock, Nigel Reo-Coker and England legend Emile Heskey. Current under 18s coach Gavin McCann has also had a spell for both clubs.

Bolton will be hoping for a repeat of their last league visit to Villa Park where they finished 2-1 winners back in 2012. The goals came from ex Bolton left back Stephen Warnock, then a Villa player and Bolton’s goals coming from left winger Martin Petrov and striker David Ngog.

One of the most memorable games between the two sides has to be the 2004 League cup semi-final 1st leg game, when Bolton won 5-2, with that free kick from Jay-Jay Okocha.
