It’s the most wonderful time of the year….

So the festive rush of games is over and, given the results, it has been a pretty wonderful time overall. Unfortunately other results haven’t gone our way, with Burton and Sunderland both picking up wins as well, but it could be much, much worse.

So we hop into January, which brings New Year optimism, FA Cup fixtures and the dreaded transfer window.

Words from big Ken have been very broad. He wants a defender, midfielder and striker, all of Premier Leagut to top level Championship quality and ready to play. I think that’s what most Championship clubs would like, to be fair, but until we see signings let’s reserve our judgement. He wants to ship out players that aren’t playing, such as Derik (who I believe could be the next Marcos Alonso who we regret losing for nothing), Dervite (goodbye) and Chris Taylor (be honest, who forgot he was still with us?). The players have to go before we recruit so it will be an interesting few weeks.

One player I’d like to see back in white, most likely on loan, is Zach Clough. This is probably less likely now that Forest have sacked their manager and the new guy will want time to assess all his players, but we know he’s a quality player who scored a goal for every three appearances with us, and can’t even get onto the pitch as a sub. Slotting him in behind Madine, and pushing Vela back to sit with either Pratley or Henry, who are both injury concerns at the moment, could prove to be a shrewd move.

Then there’s the FA Cup. A chance for those fringe players to show their worth. King, Hall, and the rest may get a chance to display their talents and let us all know why the development squad are performing so well this year.

I’m just sat here now waiting for Ken’s next statement where he may or may not share a bit more information on our January plans. Let’s see what the New Year brings and hopefully continue the climb up the table.

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year and heres to a prosperous 2018.

Come on you whites.
