The weekend is nearly upon us and this brings our third league game of the season against the Royals.
On Tuesday night, a second string Whites team ran an impressive Leeds side close and but for some better finishing the result could have been different. New left back Jonathan Grounds should have buried a late chance to give Bolton a shot at a penalty shoot out, but it wasn’t to be.
The sour point, however, wasn’t the result. It was Big Kens mid match announcement that Alfie was flying off down under. I find it a great shame he’s gone. If it is the chance of a lifetime that was touted, then all the best to him. I feel that without reinforcements though, this leaves us light at the top.
Magennis has started well, but if he’s unable to continue this form then can we rely on Hall and Donaldson to chip in with a goal or two?
There were a lot of positives to take from the league Cup loss. Wildschut was impressive although his end product was lacking. Otzumer is surely pushing for a place as is Craig Noone and after Olkowski’s impressive start, Little put in a fabulous attacking display to maybe give Parky something to think about.
What is the gaffer thinking for this weekend? Well, he has revealed that Ameobi is back in training but this game could be just too soon for a return. Will we see an unchanged lineup from the Bristol City game that we unfortunately threw away or have some of the fringe players forced their way into the reckoning after Tuesday nights game? I would like to see Noone start, and Otzumer given at least the last half hour.
We’ll know the answers at 2pm tomorrow, and we’ll know if it worked come 5pm. One thing is for sure, we’re only three games into the season but this team that Parky has pieced together has given a big cause for optimism and excitement.
Come on you whites!
