What a game on Saturday. Usually Deepdale derbys are dull affairs, but the first half was far from it.
A bright start was scuppered as we found ourselves 2 down after a quarter of an hour. A poor backpass followed by a sublime strike left us all with our heads in our hands worrying about what was to come. What we didn’t expect, however, was the way the Whites rallied. Ameobi took the game to Preston and with the goalkeeper looking shaky, unleashed a fierce strike to put us right back in it. Then talking of right backs, Polish Pawel powered the ball in off the underside of the bar and the 4000+ travelling fans were in raptures.
The second half could have gone either way, but for the half time whistle coming at just the wrong time, killing the momentum, we could have left with all three points.
Parky shuffled the midfield. O’Neil was immense and Williams wonderful. The spirit shown throughout the team was a million miles from the Sheffield shambles and gave us all hope that we aren’t actually about to slip back into last seasons woes. With a bench of unused talent we now have cause for huge optimism as long as we can stay injury free.
One worry is Taylor going off injured in a department where we are hugely understaffed. Whether Grounds can cope as an understudy is yet to be seen, but we can’t hold his Blades performance against him, although I’m sure many will.
An international break is upon us followed by a home game against lowly QPR. I’m hoping this will be more of a help than a hindrance but I can’t wait to see the team take the field again in two weeks.
Huge props to Parky and the boys for not going under and showing us a fightback we haven’t seen for a while.
Come on you whites! @originalbrown84
